The NIHR funded research funded by govt health agencies in the UK & private donors including the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation today announced that the steroid dexamethasone has been identified as the first possible drug to improve survival rates in certain coronavirus patients..
Dexamethasone is an inexpensive and very widely used steriod. This is a breakthrough in the medical feild.This particular Study enrolled 2100 trail patients who received low doses of 6mg per day for 10 days which showed excellent results.
Can we take Dexamethasone During Pregnancy?
Dexamethasone Injection may be unsafe to use during pregnancy.
Although there are very limited studies in humans, Trails on animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby.so its not safe for the developing baby.
How does it work
It works by blocking the production of chemical messengers in the body which cause inflammation (redness &swelling) and allergies..

The RECOVERY Trial treatment for patients admitted to hospital with COVID-19. 11,500 patients who have been selected for this trail has undergone the following treatment:
1.Lopinavir-Ritonavir (commonly used to treat HIV)
2.Low-dose Dexamethasone ( low cost steroid, which is used to reduce inflammation)
3.Hydroxychloroquine (which has now been stopped due to lack of efficacy)
4.Azithromycin ( antibiotic)
5.Tocilizumab (an anti-inflammatory injection)
6.Convalescent plasma (collected from donors who have recovered from COVID-19 and contains antibodies against the SARS-CoV-2 virus)
